2025 continues to be a good year for WNBA player Angel Reese as NBA 2K has released the new cover for 2026’s latest game, and Reese is front and center. The Chicago Sky power forward succeeds two-time WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson on this special edition's cover, adding another thing to her resume.
Reese called her appearance on the cover "a statement," saying "it's about representation and showing young girls they can be confident, bold, and take up space unapologetically. To be cemented in NBA 2K history is a special honor that reflects not only my journey, but also all the veteran WNBA players who have paved the way before me and the growing impact of the league as a whole.”
The selection of Reese caused a stir online as some people took to social media to say the company should have picked Caitlin Clark instead of Reese. On the controversial comments, NBA 2K general manager Zak Armitage explained to TMZ why Reese was picked.
"NBA 2K26 is celebrating the bold, the confident and the visionaries, and WNBA All-Star Angel Reese carries all that on and off the court," said Armitage. "In her sophomore year in the WNBA, Angel Reese has made waves, created impactful conversations, and inspired the next generation. She's a storyteller and has helped the WNBA grow its audience."
The WNBA Edition of NBA 2K26 will once again be a physical version of the game, exclusively available at GameStop in the United States. 2K Games also announced that NBA 2K26 will be released on Sep. 5, 2025.
