In a historic career that spanned over 8 decades, Betty is truly a national treasure. She's won 8 Emmys, and starred in two classic sitcoms "The Golden Girls" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" among countless others.

She made her first television appearance at the age of 17.

Once she got a bit by the entertainment bug, there was no stopping her. She broke barriers by becoming the first woman to host a talk show back in 1952. On that show she stood up for racial injustice even though she knew the consequences.

She went on to receive 115 acting credits, received several Lifetime Achievement Awards, SAGs and even a Grammy in her later years.

Whether Betty was on or off screen, she was a strong advocate for animals. She produced and hosted a show called Pet Set. In 2011, she wrote a book called Betty and Friends: My Life at the Zoo. She even hosted specials like Betty White Goes Wild and lent her voice to the animated series Pound Puppies.

In the 1960s, she began working with the Los Angeles Zoo. During her time as member of the board at the zoo, gorilla and orangutan exhibits were built as well as a state of the art chimpanzee exhibit. She served with the zoo for over 50 years.

In addition to the zoo, she worked with several foundations that focused on animal welfare and health.

I'm sure the people and the animals alike will miss the one of a kind Betty White.

No word on how she passed away, but sources close to her say she wasn't sick or suffering so it appears to be natural causes. An autopsy will later determine cause of death. May she rest in peace. 💕
