ree

The highly anticipated Bob Marley movie did big numbers in the box office over the holiday weekend. The biopic raked in around $52 million during its opening weekend after its Valentine's Day premiere. Between Friday and Sunday of the holiday weekend, the film grossed around $27.7 in theaters and an additional $29 million overseas. Those numbers make it the third largest-grossing movie of the year worldwide so far.

The movie follows the life story of late Jamaican musician Bob Marley and his band, Bob Marley and the Wailers. The film also touched on their 1977 hit album Exodus and their journey in life following the album's release.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie has set a record in Jamaica for its largest movie opening of all time.

"We thank the people for embracing this film and in so doing, helping to highlight the message of one love," Marley's son, Ziggy Marley told Variety and THR in a statement.

Multiple outlets have reported that the movie has double the $26.2 million of Sony’s “Madame Web” which is the latest Marvel saga about a female superhero.

Both films debuted on Wednesday, Valentine’s Day.
