Chris Brown is taking legal action filing a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery. His lawsuit alleges the media company defamed him in a 2024 documentary that claims the R&B star had a long history of sexually abusing women.
Brown is suing Warner Bros. Discovery and several others for their part in the production of "Chris Brown: A History of Violence", a documentary which highlights his alleged pattern of abuse. He is seeking $500 million in damages, alleging libel and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
In the lawsuit filed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in the Los Angeles Superior Court, Brown accuses Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample Entertainment, the production company behind Chris Brown: A History of Violence, of “promoting and publishing false information in their pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads and dollars and to the detriment” of the star — all while “knowing that it was full of lies and deception and violating basic journalistic principles.”
A spokesperson for Investigation Discovery said in a statement shared with USA TODAY on Wednesday that "We stand behind the production and will vigorously defend ourselves against this lawsuit". Brown denounced the docuseries for declaring him "a serial rapist and a sexual abuser" and denied being found guilty "of any sex related crime.”
