Ciara Reflects On Finding Out ‘Goodies’ Was Almost Given To Britney Spears

Ciara sat down with Kelly Clarkson on her show to celebrate 20 years of her debut album. During a recent appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the singer and dancer Ciara revealed that her breakout hit “Goodies” almost ended up being sung by another pop star.

Ciara shared, “I learned about this later, but they were trying to give my song to Britney Spears.” She quickly clarified that there were no hard feelings, adding, “Britney wasn't the one trying to take my song because I love Britney.”

The Atlanta native released the Petey Pablo-assisted and Lil Jon-produced single “Goodies” on June 8, 2004. The record began her stardom and earned the singer, her first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The song dominated the charts, staying at No. 1 for seven consecutive weeks and eventually went platinum, certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
