Comic View Makes a Comeback After 16 Years

After a 16-year break, the beloved stand-up comedy series "Comic View," which originally premiered on BET in 1992, is making its highly anticipated comeback with fresh episodes exclusively on BET+ this March.

Recorded last year (2023) during Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat Weekend in Las Vegas, the revival consists of four episodes, with renowned comedian Mike Epps serving as the host. The lineup showcases a variety of comedic talents such as Tommy Davidson, Brandi Denise, DC Young Fly, Jayski, Navv Greene, Tony Roberts, Lavar Walker, Bresha Webb, and Tacarra Williams. Notably, this marks rapper T.I.'s debut in the stand-up comedy arena.

Initially serving as a pioneering platform for comedians of all stripes, the original “Comic View” spotlighted a rich tapestry of talent from coast to coast. Throughout its tenure, hosting responsibilities were handled by comedic heavyweights including D.L. Hughley, Cedric The Entertainer, Kevin Hart, Sommore, and others, before the series came to a close in December 2008.

Upon the announcement of the reboot in July 2023, Kevin Hart eagerly conveyed his anticipation, stressing the pivotal role of “Comic View” in offering comedians a national spotlight. BET President and CEO Scott Mills echoed Hart's sentiments, emphasizing the show's historical significance in shaping stand-up specials and propelling comedy stars to stardom. "Over 30 years ago, ComicView set the footprint for stand-up specials and launched the careers of some of today's mega-comedy stars," he continued. "We can't wait to see this new group of talented and rising comedians."

The new “Comic View” is scheduled to premiere exclusively on BET+ on Thursday, Mar. 14. The series will be executive produced by Mike Epps and Kevin Hart, along with Tiffany Williams and Angela Aguilera from BET.
