On Saturday in Katy, Texas three-time gold medalist Gabby Douglas made a comeback at the American Classic and successfully qualified to compete at the U.S. Championships. The qualification puts her on a path to compete at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer.

Douglas’ last gymnastics competition was eight years ago at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro when her team won gold medals. She finished 10th in the all-around, but her scores on the vault and the balance beam qualified Douglas to compete in the two events at the U.S. Championships.

To compete in all four events at nationals, which will be held from May 30 to June 2 in Fort Worth, Texas, Douglas will have to file a petition. Douglas shared a video of herself on the vault with a caption about her performance at the American Classic, which she said “wasn’t my best showing” on Instagram.

She previously announced that she would make her gymnastics return at the 2024 Winter Cup in February. However, she tested positive for COVID-19 and withdrew from the event.

In July 2023, Douglas also hinted on Instagram that she had resumed training and was aiming to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
