If you are looking to get into the holiday spirit this year with a Charlie Brown Special, it will be different this year. For years with the push of a button, people could change the channel and see Charlie Brown around the holiday time.
But now you’ll need an app and a subscription to a streaming service to see it. The streaming rights for the Peanuts specials have been obtained by Apple, putting all the Mendelson/Melendez Productions and Peanuts Worldwide–owned specials behind a paywall.
So, anyone wanting to see the specials has to subscribe to Apple TV+. The streaming service currently has 29 episodes available of The Peanuts Classics spanning from 1966 to 2011. In the past, the holiday specials would normally run on ABC, but since 2018, Apple has had exclusive rights.
Apple TV+ is $9.99 a month with no ads. There is a 7-day free trial available to new subscribers, or if you've bought an eligible Apple device recently you can get up to three months of the streaming service totally free.
