Issa Rae To Produce Buddy Comedy Starring Keke Palmer and Sza

After the two teamed up for an episode of Saturday Night Live with Palmer hosting while SZA was the musical act, the duo is headed for the big screen. Reportedly, Palmer and SZA have signed on to star in a upcoming film under TriStar Pictures, with Issa Rae producing under her production company HOORAE. The film is a project of ColorCreative and Columbia Pictures, aka CoCre lab (Sony Pictures)--a diversity cohort that supports and develops diverse screenwriters’ original ideas for studio features. 

The movie will mark SZA’s debut into the acting world. The singer had been considering a number of projects before the opportunity to reunite with Palmer seemed too good to pass up.

Palmer took to Instagram on April 27 to confirm the casting news, writing, “I CAN’T WAIT!!!”.

Although additional details about what might be one of the most anticipated movies are still under wraps Lawrence Lamont, director of Rae’s “Rap Sh!t,” will lead the project with Syreeta Singleton, the showrunner of “Rap Sh!t,” writing the screenplay.
