Rapper J. Cole explains in his new song ‘Port Antonio’ why he "backed away" from the Kendrick Lamar and Drake rap beef. In the new song Cole addressed walking away from the beef because he could see the way it was going.

“I pulled the plug because I’ve seen where that was ‘bout to go / They wanted blood, they wanted clicks to make they pockets grow,” Cole raps in the track, which dropped late last Wednesday.

Cole spends the first part of “Port Antonio” reflecting on far he's come from his rough upbringing, then he went on to address the battle/beef that had the internet in a chokehold for days. The rapper said he understood why Lamar and Drake continued their feud, but he hopes fans realize why he chose to bow out gracefully.

J. Cole’s lyrics sparked the months-long, highly dramatic feud between Drake and Lamar last year when he rapped in his song with Drake, “First Person Shooter,” that he, Drake and Lamar were the “big three” of modern rap.
