NAACP Image Award Nominations Are In!

The 53rd annual celebration of Black excellence that is the NAACP Image Awards have announced their nominations for 2022.

Issa Rae's "Insecure" and the Black western film with an all-star cast "The Harder They Fall" lead the way scoring 12 nominations each.

The Aretha Franklin biopic "Respect" starring Jennifer Hudson earned 6 noms including Entertainer of the Year while "King Richard", the story of tennis greats Venus and Serena's father scored 5 including Best Actor for Will Smith. Will also earned his first non-acting nomination for his memoir "Will".

Let's move on to tv. "Black-Ish" has the most nominations with 8. The mini-series biopic "Genius:Aretha" starring Cynthia Erivo follows with 5. "Underground Railroad", "Harlem", "True Story" and "The Daily Show" all have 4.

Alright, on to music. H.E.R. is the most nominated with 6. Lil Nas X, Chl, Jazmine Sullivan and Drake each landed 4 nominations a piece.

Alongside Jennifer Hudson, Tiffany Haddish, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Nas X and Regina King are contenders for Entertainer of the Year.

The live awards show will take place without an in-person audience due to COVID but Anthony Anderson is returning to host. You can catch them February 26th.
