Naya Rivera's Family Scores Victory In Wrongful Death Suit

The family of Naya Rivera has a bittersweet victory. The family has been cleared to continue their pursuit of justice in a wrongful death suit of Naya. Naya died in July 2020 while boating in Lake Piru with her 3 year old son, Josey.

Ryan Dorsey, Naya's ex and Josey's father claims Ventura County failed to provide adequate safety measures to Rivera and their son before they took off on their boating trip last year.

The county debunked the claims and asked a judge to block the lawsuit. The request was denied by a judge and the gives the family clearance to sue the county for millions of dollars in damages.

In the lawsuit, Dorsey claims that there were no floatation or life saving devices as well as the boat was not equipped with an accessible ladder, an anchor, rope or any radio or security mechanisms.

Hours after Naya and Josey left, her son was found alone on the boat sleeping and Rivera was no where to be found. A huge search was launched and her body was eventually recovered. Researchers determined they had been swimming and it was confirmed when Josey said his Mom threw him on the boat and disappeared.
