Hall of Famer and basketball superstar Patrick Ewing is returning to the New York Knicks as a basketball ambassador. Last month, the New York Knicks made the announcement that Ewing rejoined the franchise as an ambassador to assist both basketball and business operations. Ewing will work directly with Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau and the team's front office.
"As I said the day my number 33 jersey lifted into the rafters at MSG, I will always be a Knick and I will always be a New Yorker. I can't wait to get started in this new position and to officially be back with the organization that I love so much," Ewing said in a statement. "The Garden has always been my home and I'm looking forward to working with Leon Rose, Coach Thibodeau, the team and everyone else that makes this place so special."
The Jamaican native was selected first overall by the Knicks in the 1985 NBA Draft. In 1984, Ewing led the Georgetown Hoyas to their only NCAA national championship. He was also named the Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year in 1985 after averaging 14.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 3.6 blocks and 1.1 steals over 30.6 minutes in 37 games (all starts).
“The New York Knicks and Patrick Ewing are synonymous with one another, and we are humbled and excited to bring Patrick back home,” said Knicks president Leon Rose. “A monumental figure in New York basketball lore, Patrick brings a wealth of knowledge from his time both on and off the court that is unmatched. We are ecstatic that Patrick will once again be back in the blue and orange.”
