Teyana Taylor Retiring From Music...For Now

Teyana Taylor says she's just plain tired. She went on Instagram Live for about 30 minutes and laid it all out about how she feels underrated, overlooked, and constantly getting the short end of the stick when it comes to her music career.

She is clear that her label, Def Jam is the problem. She says that the label is reciprocating 10% of her 110% into her music and that they need to take accountability. She goes on to say that she does not get the same treatment as other artists that receive stylists, choreographers, and producers on hand. She typically does that work herself.

Still, she has no problem. The problem is she's saying those funds should go towards marketing her instead.

She's been an artist on Def Jam for a decade with little results in her opinion. So in her words, until they "release" her she wants to retire. She's not opposed to going independent to return to music.

Teyana has been married to NBA player Iman Shumpert since 2016. and they share 2 children. The mother of 4 year old Junie and 3 month old Rue says, "I'm not gonna let this s— kill me," she said. "I got kids to live for. I have a beautiful family to live for... it's already stressed me out. I'm very, very tired. I'm over it."

"Besides performing for my real fans and being in a booth, nothing else about music makes me happy," she said. "Period. And honestly, it took me to even retire to realize how many fans I had."

Teyana assured fans that the reason for her retirement has nothing to do with them and their support. She will continue to direct for other artists and lead choreography.
