Tupac's Sister Expresses Lack Of Faith In Justice System

The sister of late rapper Tupac Shakur has expressed her lack of faith with the justice system as his alleged killer is in court facing charges for his murder. Nearly 30 years after the rapper’s killing in 1996, his murder trial began in a Las Vegas courtroom on August 17.

During an interview with Law & Crime Network, Tupac’s sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, explained how the family’s history in the United States makes it difficult to feel as though justice will be served. She went on to explain how she sees justice in people and creatives in all kind of fields around the world.

“Unfortunately, our family, because of the history in America, and our family’s history here, we have no expectations–or low expectations–of the criminal system ever. We never had any expectations for the criminal system to hunt down someone for my brother’s murder,” she said. “Just Black boys, young Black boys, and their lives or their deaths tend to be swept under the rug in America often. So we didn’t have high expectations in the beginning.”

Tupac’s alleged killer, Duane “Keffe D” Davis was arrested in September 2023 in relation to the rapper’s death. Prosecutors allege Davis planned the retaliatory attack following the infamous MGM Grand fight involving Shakur, Death Row CEO Marion “Suge” Knight and Davis’ nephew Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson on September 7, 1996. 

Authorities say Davis supplied the gun that was used in the drive-by shooting that occurred hours later near the Las Vegas Strip. Shakur was shot multiple times and died six days later at just 25 years old.
