Women flying into Atlanta now have a new rideshare option as a women focused rideshare company has landed a contract with the world’s busiest airport. HERide is a rideshare company created by women, for women.
The rideshare platform was co-founded by Jillian Anderson and DeVynne Starks in 2019 to focus on women’s safety when using rideshare companies to get around.
Now HERide has secured a contract with the airport in Atlanta, making it the first Black-owned company to secure a contract with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Co-founder Jillian Anderson says her previous experience as a rideshare driver for other companies is what inspired the need for the new app due to many women’s discomfort using traditional services like Uber and Lyft, especially at night.
“There were a lot of women that were hesitant with riding with men at night using Uber and Lyft,” Anderson told AFROTECH.
She also says she realized that it was a consistent problem that those platforms seemed to not have a plan on solving so she decided to solve it herself. HERide operates exclusively in Atlanta with over 200 active drivers, 19,000+ users, and 33,000 app downloads currently.
“Our focus is on women because we understand that women have had more issues at an alarming rate than men have. But that is not to disregard that men have not had similar issues,” Stark told AFROTECH.
According to the company’s website, drivers must pass extensive background checks and be personally evaluated to ensure passenger safety. The rideshare platform also has in-ride security features to reassure passengers that they will arrive at their destination.
