The United States government has shut down after Congress has failed to reach a deal. The shut down began at midnight after Congress was in a deadlock on reaching a deal on funding.

According to CNN, Republicans and Democrats are at odds over enhanced Obamacare subsidies, with leaders of both parties determined not to take the blame. It marks the 15th government shutdown since 1981, and there’s no immediate end in sight as congressional Democrats demand health-care policy changes that Trump and Republicans have refused.

While the shutdown has been taking place, the White House website features a clock counting the amount of time "Democrats have shut down the government," while the Democratic National Committee wrote on social media early Oct. 1 that "Republicans own this shutdown."

So far the shut down could possibly have an impact on travel in the U.S. and multiple government agencies like the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Justice, and more. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection will continue to collect tariff revenue from U.S. importers during the government shutdown, according to a document published Tuesday by the Department of Homeland Security.
