After an exhausting week filled with politics, it’s nice to know the world still spins. By spinning, I mean the Recording Academy’s Grammy nominations list releasing for the 67th annual awards show.

Although musical award shows do not take precedence over our political system, it is nice to know that some of our favorite musicians will be awarded for creativity. The Recording Academy released the official nomination list for the upcoming 2025 awards show, and this one happened to make history.
It's obvious this year was huge in music, but specifically the pop genre. Women have continued to dominate the genre by blending influences of the past, and creating new sounds that resonate with this generation's listening ears. Music released between Sept. 16th 2023 and Aug. 30th 2024 qualify for the awards. Here's a few of the most notable nominations:
Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" album racked 11 nominations, surpassing Michael Jackson's Thriller with 10 nominations. Back in 2009, she received 10. But the celebration does not end there, as she shares the spotlight with other powerful women shining in music as well. Billie Eillish and Charli XCX trail right behind with a large number of nominations. (These two are also in a four-way tie with Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone. Behind Eillish and XCX, Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift received 6 nods on their latest albums.
Will the 2025 Grammys be the year we finally get to see Beyoncé win Album/Record of the Year? We'll just have to watch and see. Despite her record-breaking amount of nominations and awards, I believe this will have fans and viewers on the edge of their seats come ceremony night.
Not only did the women make their mark, but so did the men in their respective areas. Andre 3000 received a nomination for his instrumental flute album New Blue Sun is in the Album of the Year category as well. Teddy Swims, Shaboozey, and Benson Boone also shared quite the year breaking out in music, all receiving a nod for Best New Artist. In addition, Shaboozey received 3 nominations for A Bar Song (Tipsy) and another on Cowboy Carter.
On another note, this year's female nominations have to face Kendrick Lamar for "Not Like Us" in the Record of the Year category. Lamar's single seemed to have been present in almost every setting from political to sport related events over the past few months. The single has even garnered over 700 million streams on Spotify. While this is noteworthy for Lamar, other contenders in the category and viewers at home have to consider that a man could possibly walk away with the highly anticipated award.
The complete list of nominations can be viewed here.
Congratulations to all of the musicians and contributors nominated for the 67th GRAMMY Awards. Tune in on February 2nd, 2025 to see who takes what award home!
