MJ Rodriguez has earned her first nomination at the 2021 Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Rodriguez was nominated for her role as Blanca Evangelista on "Pose." She has made history as the first trans woman to ever be nominated for an Emmy award in a lead acting category.
Set in New York during the 1980s and 1990s, Pose is led by an ensemble cast of LGBTQ actors as they navigate through the AIDS crisis, ballroom culture and capitalism.
The show has been nominated for several Emmys and garnered critical acclaim. However, the only actor from the show's cast to ever be nominated was Billy Porter. He made history as well by becoming the 1st openly gay Black man to win the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series award back in 2019.

However, some felt everyone wasn't getting what they deserved including GLAAD. They teamed up with several other LGBTQ organizations and wrote a letter to the Emmy Award Voters letting them know the time for more recognition is now.
The letter reads, “The talented transgender actresses, actors, and non-binary performers in this series have not yet been honored by Television Academy members and their performances deserve acknowledgment,” reads the letter. “In 2021 – with Pose’s third and final season – this once in a lifetime moment is right now.
Pose has earned a total of 9 nominations this year, including another nomination for Billy Porter, MJ's historic nomination and a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.

The 73RD Primetime Emmys air on September 21, 2021 at 7pm CST.
