Jhene Aiko Enlist Kendrick Lamar For "Westside Whimsy"
After a long music break for Jhene Aiko, the singer announced her first studio album in six years. Westside Whimsy, Aiko's fourth album was announced on Tuesday (Sept. 8), and is a 20 track long album with a lot of her repeated collaborators.
Speaking on the album’s sound, Aiko told Complex in April: “All the music of the ‘90s has really influenced me but especially West Coast car culture, surfing culture, beach, laidback.
When I think of California, it’s just such a magical place and I love a good road trip and I’ve been doing them for many years.”
The album takes you on a soul-searching journey and a healing journey with songs like 'Don't Be That Guy', and 'A Living Light'. Aiko collaborated with Kendrick Lamar for a track titled " So Good", and has features from Larry June, Ab-Soul, Tyga, and OHMA.
The singer described the album to Rolling Stone as "a lifestyle". She also went on to tell the magazine that "It's not a project".
