DMX Dies at 50

Earl Simmons bka as rap legend and actor DMX has died. He was 50. X was hospitalized last week after an apparent drug overdose followed by a heart attack on April 2nd.

His family released the following statement:
We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.
DMX was born in Mount Vernon, New York but spent most of his childhood in Yonkers. He often talked about how he had a rough time from growing up in an abusive household to spending time in boys' homes and juvenile institutions.
It was during his time in boys' homes where he began writing music. His raspy growl made him very distinct and he found himself at Def Jam. In 1998, he released "It's Dark And Hell Is Hot" and "Blood Of My Blood." His next album, "And Then There Was X shot him into the stratosphere with multi platinum success.

Meanwhile, he had also become a movie star, starring in films like "Romeo Must Die", "Exit Wounds", "Belly" and more. His last album "Undisputed" was released in 2012.
He was the first artist to debut an album at #1 5 times in a row on the Billboard 200s chart and has sold more than 74 million albums worldwide.
In 2020 he and Snoop Dogg did a #VERZUZ that turned out to be iconic. He had just finished wrapping up new music in the studio so a posthumous album may be coming soon.
DMX leaves behind a fiancee, 15 children, family, friends and whole lot of fans. RIP.
