Jussie Smollett has been found guilty of falsely reporting a hate crime. After the trial, jurors deliberated over the course of 2 days and came back with a guilty verdict.

They determined that Smollett and his accomplices provided very different stories of what occurred in January 2019.
Smollett was convicted on 5 out of 6 charges, he was acquitted on one felony count of disorderly conduct.
2 years ago, Jussie told police that he was attacked and then subjected to homophobic and racist slurs by 2 unknown men that included wrapping a noose around his neck and pouring bleach on him. Authorities investigated those claims and concluded that the actor set up the entire scheme. In February 2020, he was indicted by a grand jury.
The next step in the case is Jussie's potential punishment.

The former "Empire" star maintains his innocence and intends to appeal the verdict.
