Lala Anthony Reveals She Had Emergency Heart Surgery

During a recent interview for SELF Magazine, Lala revealed she experienced an irregular heartbeat and it sent her to the emergency room.

She detailed that during a Memorial Day celebration she began to feel lightheaded and could barely keep her balance. Her family was so concerned, they convinced her to call for an ambulance.

Back in 2019, Lala was diagnosed with premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) which disrupted her heart's natural rhythm. When she was tested by doctors, it was revealed that she was having 30,000 more beats a day than the average person. It can lead to heart attacks, strokes and heart failure.

But due her to hectic work schedule and just life, Lala bypassed the diagnosis. She was prescribed medication but often didn't take it because it made her tired.

But this past June, she could no longer ignore it and landed herself in the hospital. The 2 hour surgery (s0me of the time she was awake) occurred to stop the irregularity.

“There were a lot of scary moments,” she says. “They would wake me up during the procedure and say, ‘We’re going to speed your heart up now…. Just take deep breaths.’ Those doctors were just so incredible. But it was a terrifying experience.”

In the end, it was worth it. The changes in her heart rhythm were immediate.

Lala says she learned a few lessons from this experience that she wanted to share..

“Life is short. We’ve learned that from the pandemic. We learned that from being in quarantine,” she said. “You want to be able to live it to the fullest, and you don’t want something that can easily be corrected to be a reason why you’re not able to enjoy life or be there for your family or your friends. Use me as an example of why not to wait.”
