Maya Angelou's Son Passes Away

Guy Johnson, the only son of famed poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou has died.

The official Twitter account for Maya Angelou made the announcement:

Ms. Angelou most recently became the first black woman to be featured on the U.S. quarter and her son gave significant input for how she would be depicted on the coin.

He recently spoke to the media (KRON) about how he selected the image for his mother.

“One of the reasons I chose that image is, first off, I know how difficult it is to capture the actual essence and animus of a human being on a metal coin, and I thought that picture with the bird behind her, the wings and her arms out gave some sense of the style that she had, the grace that she had

A poet like his mother, Mr. Johnson passed away peacefully at his home. He was 77. May he rest in peace.
