After only one season with Netflix, the animated series 'Good Times' has reportedly been canceled. The news about the show being canceled was first reported by What’s On Netflix.

Since the release of the trailer fans of the original 1970s series and critics have commented on the differences between the two versions. Some of the comments were focused on the stereotypes of Black life that were portrayed on the show.

While the show briefly landed in Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 during its premiere window, viewership ultimately didn’t reach renewal thresholds, earning 3.3 million views in the first half of 2024 and an additional 2.1 million views through mid-2025, per the outlet. Actors from the original cast gave their opinions on the animated series.

The late Actor John Amos who played James Evans Sr. in the original series expressed doubt that an animated reboot could match the emotional resonance of the Norman Lear classic, saying the bar was “set pretty high.” BernNadette Stanis noted that using the Good Times name without the original characters or tone would lead audiences to expect something the reboot never intended to deliver.
