Track SuperStar Sha'Carri Richardson Tests Positive for Marijuana

Updated: Jan 14, 2022

Sha'Carri Richardson may have stopped her Olympic journey in its tracks. The track star could miss her chance at the Olympics after testing positive for marijuana. Marijuana is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of prohibited substances.

After winning the 100 meter race at the U.S. Track and Field trials, Sha'Carri became a fan favorite and people were excited to see her go to the Olympics.

However earlier today, The United States Anti-Doping agency announced the positive test and that Sha'Carri had accepted a month suspension that began on June 28.

That could clear her in time for some Olympic games if she is chosen to represent the USA team.

This morning on The Today Show, Sha'Carri said she used marijuana as a coping mechanism. She said she learned about the unexpected death of her biological mother from a reporter during an interview and she didn't know how to deal with her emotions.

She also apologized to her fans, sponsors and family saying, “I greatly apologize if I let you guys down, and I did.”

Just the day before, she made a simple yet puzzling tweet and now we know why.
