While the current political climate shows that the world is taking a turn away from Black literature in certain spaces, Solange is giving back to the culture in a big way. The multitalented musician has launched a new digital platform that offers borrowers the opportunity to read “primarily rare, out of print, and 1st edition titles by black & brown authors, poets, & artists” through her multidisciplinary institution Saint Heron.
The news was shared across the singer’s social media accounts on Friday, Sept. 26. Since the announcement many books on the website have been borrowed.
Saint Heron Library is free of charge and operates on an honor-based borrowing system through online registration, according to the library’s website. All of the books are shipped to borrowers with complimentary shipping and return postage to keep the free of charge element going.
