Tyra Banks Suing Netflix For Defamation

Supermodel Tyra Banks is hitting back at Netflix after the company released a documentary about her hit show America's Next Top Model. At the beginning of the year the streaming giant premiered Reality Check: America's Next Top Model, a doc that gave a look into the perspective from former participants of the series.

Throughout the documentary, multiple former contestants from different seasons of the show along with former hosts could be seen giving their insights and experiences on the things that went on during that era. Now Banks, who herself was apart of the documentary is suing the company for defamation, citing that her portrayal in the docu-series is defamatory and was edited to support a false narrative.

In a lawsuit filed on June 13, Banks is asking for a jury trial to determine the "appropriate" amount she should receive in damages, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. The lawsuit states, "During a three-and-a-half-hour interview, Ms. Banks answered questions about the show's groundbreaking history, including criticism of decisions she would approach differently today.”

She is claiming that just 16 minutes of her lengthy interview was used in the docu-series, and that the clips were "stripped of context and reassembled to support a false and defamatory narrative unrelated to what she actually expressed."

Banks hosted America’s Next Top Model for 22 cycles after its UPN beginnings in 2003.
