It is the season to be merry and give back but this year some consumers are boycotting instead of shopping. 2025 has been met with a lot of political change, and economic change as consumers have decided to boycott spending money on the holidays.
Over the Black Friday weekend, the groups behind the No Kings protests called on people to support their campaign called We Ain’t Buying It. The group called on people to not shop at Target, Home Depot, and Amazon during the biggest time of the year for deals.
According to the group, more than 220 organizations joined We Ain’t Buying It with the initiative to not shop and spend money at big consumer companies. Also, the group said, Little Blue Cart, a directory of progressive small businesses saw record-breaking traffic during the campaign period.
Organizers say the best practices for ethical spending and financially supporting your community are to shop small, shop local, reuse, or thrift when you can, and to consume less. For a list of active boycotts, click here.
